Who is the best classical cellist there now?
Who has the best color and tone in his game, better intonation, interpreting music and overall effectiveness.
I do not know what you're talking about. Yo Yo Ma is not all that the best health, I think, but there are many cellists better there. His performances are very (!) Poor. It does not release many albums, but are not reflected. Seriously. Even the musicians are feeling the music through more. Du Pre is a cellist too surprising, but I think it is (very slightly) overvalued. Forgive me. I do not think it's fair to say that Ma is the best there is. It is not a musician. His recordings have enough entries that are not in sync. Just listen. Just listen to "Swan" by Saint-Saens. And he smiled. And it seems be the deepest all-that-be, can not express in words. And seriously, Yo Yo Ma sometimes pisses me off. Even the look. He is so overrated. You Americans only a false reputation for being open-minded. You do not see it? all the votes, because as is known only by the cellist. Or just Americans fall charm. Surprisingly Maurice Gendron (died), Rostropovich doubt. This technical perfection. There is nothing that I can get on board. Each note is compatible. It's really Mastercellist. What balance. But sometimes there is not enough heat in it for the listener. Things like this are what others are cellists for most soaps. Du Pre also is amazing. So many. Lynn Harrell is well known, but its glory is comparable Ma, however, is much more interesting musician than him. Daniil Shafran does not receive the recognition it deserves. Just listen to his vibrato, which goes directly to the heart. REALLY look, if you are interested. Daniil Borisovich Shafran (January 13, 1923, Saint Petersburg – February 7, 1997, Moscow) was one of the finest cellists of Russia, but remains relatively unknown to the general public. He started playing the cello at age 6 years. Later, he studied with Professor Alexander Shtrimer (1888 – 1961) in a special school for children at the age of 8 years. Won first prize at the USSR All Union competition at the age of 14 years. At that time, was below the age limit, but the Competition Commission has approved entry. He received the Antonio Amati cello made in 1630 as a prize. Since this instrument was used throughout his career as a concert cellist. Second Cello Concerto Kabalevsky was dedicated to him. (My Favourite in performance! His Bach is beautiful too) recorded the Shostakovich Cello Sonata with the composer himself. Characteristic his style was unmistakable rich tone, which, given the fact that he played a Baroque instrument is even more surprising, their unlimited freedom of music, and its perfection technique.
